TownSmith Catalog Functionality

As a software framework, TownSmith Catalog can be custom integrated to meet the functional needs of any client. If required functionality does not exist within the framework it can be added specifically for a particular project.

  • Data Entry Interface—TownSmith Catalog enables a site administrator to add data elements and their relevant selection criteria through an easy-to-use online interface. The data will then be stored in the database under the relevant headings.

  • Dynamic Criteria Options—Using TownSmith Catalog, a user can add criteria to all the items in the cataloging system on the fly. The database will automatically begin storing a new set of information for newly established criteria. The new criteria can also be automatically reflected for definition in the web sites search pages.

  • Searchable Criteria Selection—TownSmith Catalog allows a site administrator to mark certain of the criteria in their cataloging database to be searched on by site users while other data, although in the database, is suppressed.

  • Data Import Facility—Our data import facility allows a developer to easily batch dump existing database files into TownSmith Catalog.

  • Automated Admin. Editing—When a site administrator uses TownSmith Catalog to add criteria options to their cataloging system, their administrative site is automatically updated to enable them to enter and manipulate data for that criteria heading.

  • Automated Search Page Adjustment—When a site administrator uses TownSmith Catalog to add criteria options to their cataloging system, the correlating search page on the web site is also automatically adjusted to reflect the new search option for the end user.

  • Automated Results Page Adjustment—When a site administrator uses TownSmith Catalog to add criteria options to their cataloging system, the correlating results pages on the web site is also automatically adjusted to reflect the new results data for the end user.

  • Results and Details Ordering—A web site administrator can use TownSmith Catalog to choose the order in which search results will be displayed to the end user.

  • Customizable Search Interface—TownSmith Catalog can be used to offer the site user a variety of methods for choosing their search criteria, including check boxes, popup menus, radio buttons, text fields, or multilists.

  • Item Value Options—In cases where selection criteria are represented by values, the administrator can choose to have users select either a fixed value to search for or a value range.

  • Textual Search Options—In cases where selection criteria are represented by text, the searchable text can include a combination of text, numerical information, and dates.

  • Textual Override Option—In cases where a search criteria is actually based on a numerical value, but it would be clearer to the user to have it described textually, the site administrator can use a textual override option such that text replaces the numerical values on the search and results pages of the site.
