TownSmith was developed by Seine Systems, Incorporated—a high-end Internet development firm specializing in community web sites and Intranets. Founded in 1996, Seine has broad experience and outstanding talent in the Internet development industry. Seine Systems continues to enhance TownSmith with upgrades and additional modules.

Seine's experience in building online communities has lead us to the conclusion that community will remain a driving force in bringing users to web sites, be they commerce sites, informational sites, or corporate intranets. TownSmith has been engineered to not only bring users to a site, but also to bring them back.

Seine programmers found themselves developing the same sorts of functionality for each of the company's clients. The company was driven to the conclusion, then, that they should build a set of software frameworks that would give them a jump start on building a variety of community and commerce functionalities, and TownSmith was born.

As a result of leveraging TownSmith frameworks, Seine can now develop highly functional community and commerce web sites much more quickly and efficiently than their competitors.
